박자현 교수, 웨슬리언 대학교의 웹툰 및 K-콘텐츠 전문가로서 발표했다.

‘댓글’이라는 공간에서 얼마나 많은 독자들이 실제로 보고 '좋아요'를 눌렀는지, 그리고 어떻게 반응하는지, 심지어 실제로 어떻게 좋아하는지, 그리고 일부 독자가 다른 매체, 다른 매체 및 제작으로 리메이크를 제안하는지 알 수 있다. 따라서 댓글에서 독자가 특정 웹툰에 어떻게 반응하고 상호 작용하는지 볼 수 있다고 설명했다.

그래서 이런 식으로 웹툰이 댓글란을 가져가서 이 관계를 강화하는 동시에 웹툰의 이야기 세계를 확장한다고 말할 수 있다고 말했다. 따라서 이 공간은 미디어 사용자를 적극적인 참여자로 만드는 친밀한 연결을 촉진한다. 박 교수의 연구는 가상의 친밀한 공간으로서의 '댓글'이 어떻게 남성 독자들 사이의 정서적 상호작용을 가능하게 하는지에 대한 질문에 초점을 맞춘다.

두 번째 질문에서, 미국에서 K-콘텐츠의 성공을 설명하고자 박자현 교수는 일상 활동과 기술적 변화의 중요성을 강조했습니다. 웹툰은 웹 기술과 만화를 결합하여 미디어 콘텐츠로 형성되었으며, 미국에서도 홍보 및 파트너십을 통해 성공적으로 확장되었다. 2021년부터 D.C코믹스(DC Comics)는 웹툰과 파트너십을 맺었으며, Batman Wayne Family Adventures를 웹툰 형식으로 하여 전 세계 독자에게 접근할 수 있게 만들었다. 또한, 스트리밍 서비스 플랫폼에서 웹툰 원작의 성공은 웹툰 기반 콘텐츠 제작 추세를 더욱 촉진하고 있다.

다음 질문에서는 넷플릭스 환경에 대해서 이야기했습니다. '이태원 클라쓰', '스위트홈', '지옥' 등 성공한 넷플릭스 시리즈는 모두 웹툰 원작이었다고 설명햇다. 최근 디즈니+ 시리즈 '무빙'도 강풀의 웹툰을 원작으로 했다.  따라서, 이러한 스트리밍 서비스 플랫폼은 웹툰의 인기가 독자들 사이에서 입증되었기 때문에 웹툰 기반 콘텐츠 제작 추세를 더욱 증폭시킨다고 제시했다.

박자현 교수는 미국의 다양한 웹툰 플랫폼과의 경쟁에 대해 언급하며, 네이버 웹툰이 한국을 비롯한 여러 국가에서 지배적인 시장 점유율을 차지하고 있음을 강조했다. 또한 글로벌 기술 기업과의 협력 가능성에 대한 논의를 통해 웹툰 산업의 미래가 밝다고 설명했다.

또 웹툰이 주로 젊은 세대를 대상으로 하거나 젊은 세대를 대상으로 한다는 일반적인 믿음이 있을 수 있다. 그러나 아마도 다양한 연령대와 문화에 걸쳐 독자가 확대되는 것을 볼 수 있을 것이다. 따라서 웹툰의 성장이 계속되면서 웹툰의 미래가 더 유명하다는 것을 의미한다고 설명했다.

마지막 질문에 ‘우리는 이제 새로운 콘텐츠가 요구되는 플랫폼 중심의 세상에 살고 있다’고 말했다. 웹툰은 지원적인 미디어 환경과 디지털 노동 및 활기찬 학술 의제에 관한 정책을 육성함으로써 번창할 수 있는 좋은 위치에 있다고 덧붙였다.

웹툰, 어쩌면 새로운 웹툰 작가들이 더 많이 참여할 수 있고, 또한 성공할 수 있으며, 심지어 새로운 콘텐츠 활동을 만들 수도 있다. 웹툰 산업과 문화는 전 세계 웹툰 독자층에서 더 다양해질 수 있다고 제시했다.

Professor Jahyon Park of Wesleyan University was the fourth and final presenter.

In the first question, Professor Park emphasized the significance of webtoons and elaborated on how they have achieved global growth. Webtoons are a combination of 'web,' signifying digital, and 'cartoon,' and they are used as the name for the world's largest digital comics platform. She went on to show a brief video to explain the innovative format of webtoons.

This innovative format provides readers with a modern and engaging experience by creating tension and spatial transformations. Webtoons are easily accessible through online platforms, with a strong emphasis on reader engagement through the 'comment' section. Reader reactions and feedback are crucial to the success of webtoons. The expansion of webtoons includes their adaptation into various media forms such as TV dramas, movies, online games, and even streaming services like Netflix.

Regarding the 'comment,' or Korean, 'detgul' section, she explained that it allows readers to interact with webtoons, enhancing relationships and expanding the story world of webtoons. This space facilitates intimate connections that turn media users into active participants. Professor Park's research focuses on how this virtual space of 'detgul' enables emotional interactions among male readers.

In the second question, Professor Park discussed the success of K-content in the United States and emphasized the importance of daily activities and technological advancements. Webtoons have successfully merged web technology and comics to create media content. In 2021, D.C. Comics entered a partnership to adapt the Batman Wayne Family Adventures into a webtoon format, providing global access. The success of webtoon-based content in streaming service platforms further boosts the trend of creating webtoon-based content.

Regarding the Netflix environment, she pointed out that popular Netflix series like 'Itaewon Class,' 'Sweet Home,' and 'Hellbound' were originally based on webtoons. This success in streaming platforms has reaffirmed the popularity of webtoons among readers.

Professor Park acknowledged the competition with various webtoon platforms in the U.S. and highlighted that Naver Webtoon holds a dominant market share not only in Korea but in several other countries as well. She also discussed the potential for collaboration with global tech companies, suggesting a promising future for the webtoon industry.

She also mentioned that webtoons may traditionally be associated with younger generations, but readership is expanding to various age groups and cultures, signifying a bright future for webtoons.

In response to the last question, Professor Park stated, "we now live in a platform-driven world where new content is in demand." She explained that webtoons are well-positioned to thrive by nurturing supportive media environments and addressing digital labor and dynamic academic issues.

Furthermore, she emphasized that the webtoon industry and culture can diversify among global webtoon readers.
