Gen artificial intelligence makes images, videos, and text in response to a given question. The idea is that you give it a concept and it creates content (regardless of quality).

This has had a huge impact on the movie, TV, and other creative industries. While this has the potential to reduce costs and make work more efficient, it can also have negative effects. The biggest concern is job losses.   The frustrating thing is that we've only just begun to scratch the surface of AI-induced job losses.

3 in 4 Firms "AI is already killing jobs"

According to a study of more than 300 entertainment industry leaders by the Screen Actors Guild of America and others, three-quarters (72%) of respondents said AI tools are already eliminating, reducing, or affecting consolidation of jobs at their companies.

The jobs most likely to be replaced by AI are those with the least seniority, including sound engineers, voice actors, and concept artists. Visual effects and post-production jobs were also found to be vulnerable to AI.

In particular, concept artists, who visually realize the image of a product or work, have been ranked as one of the least stable jobs due to the rise of AI.

Recently, there have been many tools that allow AI to materialize human concepts such as image creation, script writing, and video production.

The report was conducted by consulting firm CVL Economics and commissioned by The Concept Art Assn, the Animation Guild. The research period was from November 17, 2023 to December 22, 2023.

생성 AI(Generative artificial intelligence)는 주어진 질문에  따라 이미지, 비디오, 텍스트를 자유자재로 만들어낸다. 컨셉트만 제공하면 (퀄리티 여부와 관계없이) 콘텐츠를 만들어낸다는 것이다.

이런 능력을 영화, 드라마 등 영상 창작 산업에도 큰 영향을 미치고 있다. 비용이 줄어들고 작업 효율이 높아지는 장정도 있지만 악영향도 있다. 가장 큰 우려는 바로 ‘일자리’축소다.  절망스러운 사실은 AI로 인한 일자리 감소 우려가 이제 시작이라는 점이다.

미국 애니메이션 노조 등이 엔터테인먼트 업계 리더 300여 명을 대상으로 진행한 연구에 따르면 응답자 4분의 3(72%)이 AI툴이 회사에서 이미 일자리를 없애거나 줄이고 또는 통합에 영향을 주고 있다.

AI로 인해 대체될 가능성이 가장 큰 일자리는 사운드 엔지니어, 성우, 컨셉트 아티스트 등과 함께  저연차 직원들이었다. 또 시각 효과 및  포스트 프로덕션 작업도 AI에  취약한 것으로 나타났다.

특히, 제품이나 작품의 이미지를 시각적으로 구현해주는 컨셉트 아티스트는 AI 등장으로 인해 직업 안정성이 가장 낮은 직군으로 뽑혔다. 최근 AI이미지 생성, 각본작성, 동영상 제작 등 인간의 컨셉트를 AI가 구체화해주는 툴들이 많이 나왔다.

이 보고서는 컨설팅 회사  CVL Economics가 진행했으며 ‘’The Concept Art Assn',  'the Animation Guild’가 의뢰했다. 조사 기간은 2023년 11월 17일부터 2023년 12월 22일까지였다.
