In 2023, the total number of U.S. original series, liberal arts, and entertainment series was down 20% from last year. The number of episodes produced dropped from more than 2,000 to less than 16,000.

Of course, the Hollywood writers' and actors' strike in 2023 disrupted production.

TV broadcast was the most affected. TV networks saw a 36% drop in production.

But TV broadcast bounced back quickly once the production strike ended.

Thanks to their relatively fixed programming schedules, they are seeing the healthiest rebound in the short term as production normalizes.

But streaming services and cable TV are unlikely to return to pre-strike levels as quickly. That's because Hollywood studios have cut production costs and tightened their belts.

버라이어티에 따르면 2023년 미국 오리지널 시리즈와 교양, 예능 시리즈 총 숫자는 지난해에 비해 20% 하락했다. 2,000편 이상 됐던 제작 편수는 1,6000편으로 줄었다.

물론 2023년 할리우드 작가와 배우 파업으로 제작 현장이 정상 작동되지 못했다. 지상파 TV는 가장 큰 영향을 받았다. TV네트워크의 생산량은 36%나 감소했다.

지상파 방송은 생산을 파업이 끝나자 빠르게 회복됐다.

상대적으로 고정된 프로그램 일정 덕분에 제작이 정상화되면서 단기적으로 가장 건강한 반등세를 보이고 있다.  그러나 스트리밍 서비스와 케이블TV의 경우 파업 이전으로 빠르게 돌아가기 힘들어보인다. 할리우드 스튜디오들이 제작비를 줄이고 긴축 경영에 들어갔기 때문이다.
