최근 한류를 선도하고 있는 K드라마의 매력을 요약한 단어들이다. 한국 드라마를 일컷는 K드라마는 수년 전부터 글로벌 드라마 애호가들 사이에서 큰 인기를 끌고 있다.

특히, 디마 아부 나서는 팬데믹 기간 동안 K드라마는 시청자가 크게 늘었고 K드라마를 중심으로 힘든 시기 속 공동체 의식과 편안함을 강화됐다"고 언급했다.

[넷플릭스 의존도에서 벗어나는 K드라마]

한 때 넷플릭스와 K드라마는 동일어로 불렸다. 그만큼 K드라마의 성공과 유통에 넷플릭스가 가장 많은 역할을 했다. 그러나 최근 K드라마의 매력은 넷플릭스를 넘어서고 있다. 디즈니+와 아마존 프라임 등 다른 글로벌 스트리밍 서비스에서도 성공한 K드라마가 나오면서 영향력이 확대되고 있는 것이다.  이러한 광범위한 접근성은 K드라마 제작을 촉진하고 제작자들이 경계를 넘어 대담한 스토리라인을 도전하도록 독려하고 있다.

하지만,  글로벌 확장이 한국의 고유성을 빼앗고 있다는 지적도 있다. 김민하는 팟캐스트에서 한국 대본작가인 홍은미와의 대화를 통해 이 주제에 대해서 이야기했다.  홍은미는 K드라마에서 사회적 및 정치적 이슈를 지속적으로 포함하는 것을 강조하며, 이는 한국과 전 세계적으로 직면하는 현실 세계의 도전들을 반영하는 것이라고 말했다.

[K드라마, 한국의 고유성 잃고 있다는 지적도]

터키 TV 작가 멜리스 베지로글루 일마즈는 한국 드라마가 유명해지면서 오히려 한국 독창성과 유일성이 사라지고 있다고 지적했다.

한편,  엔터테인먼트 테크놀로지의 진보가 한국 드라마의 확장성에 도움이 된다는 지적도 많다.  실제, 최근 사전 제작 개선으로 K드라마 제작에 소요되는 노력과 시간이 줄어들고 있다는 이야기도 나왔다. 또 컴퓨터 그래픽 발전으로 SF, 액션 등 더 다양한 장르의 K드라마 제작도 가능해지고 있다.
