Korean entertainment format 'Still Alive' has succeeded in signing a contract to export the format to Germany, Austria, and Switzerland following Italy.

It is an entertainment format that was selected for the Korea Creative Content Agency's Format Lab support project at MIPCOM, the world's largest video content market held in Cannes, France, last October.

The overseas format development was carried out by Something Special, the first Korean production and distribution company specializing in format IP.

Created as a result of a project supported by the Korea Creative Content Agency's Format Lab, "Still Alive" is the brainchild of the writer team of  Mi yeon Kim and Bora  Lee, former writers of "Running Man" and "Crime Scene," both of which have exploded in popularity in Asia, and is a reality deduction game show that comically explores the high level of psychology and cunning that unfolds between the 10 invitees and the landlord in the so-called "Death House.

The contestants must guess the "death rattle" of the Death House landlord, and the last person standing is the winner of the game.

"'Still Alive' is a very unique reality show format that combines the setting of a detective reality with game elements," said Meikel Giersemehl, Director of MoveMe in Germany, who immediately recognized the show's unique qualities. "We are excited to see how the German version of this amazing format will be produced and presented." . Michael is also a well-known German producer with many years of experience in reality and comedy programming, most recently as Executive Producer of Non-Drama at RTL, Germany's first private broadcaster.

Something Special has also successfully exported "Battle In the Box ( N Media)" to more than 15 European countries, including the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Belgium, and Portugal, in addition to the UK and Germany.

"Battle in the Box" is a Korean independent production company N Media's entertainment format, "a space acquisition game show that takes place in two rooms divided by an isolated space and a moving wall," and was broadcast on MBN in 2022.  In particular, 'Battle in the Box' is significant as the first multi-country overseas expansion of an IP owned by a domestic independent production company. Introduced at Mipcom in 2022, 'Battle in the Box' was confirmed to be hosted by Jimmy Carr from the UK and will air on UKTV in 2024.

"We are doing our best to prove that securing IP can lead to various revenue streams," said Jinwoo Hwang, CEO of Something Special. "We will continue to actively sell formats so that Korean high-end content can be further spread in the global market."

Meanwhile, Something Special is Korea's first global format IP planning, development and distribution company established in 2019;

The team is led by  Jin woo Hwang former head of Global Content Development at CJ ENM, who exported 23 Korean formats to the global market, including "I Can See Your Voice" and "Older Than Flowers," as well as the first Korean localization to the U.S., and In Soon Kim former director of Formatist(a subsidiary of SBS), which brought "Fantastic Duo," "The Fan," and "Running Man" overseas.

한국 예능 포맷  '스틸얼라이브(Still Alive)'가 이탈리아에 이어 독일, 오스트리아, 스위스 등에 포맷 수출 계약 체결에 성공했다.

이 작품은 지난 10월 프랑스 칸느에서 열린 세계 최대 규모의 영상 콘텐츠 마켓인 MIPCOM에서 한국콘텐츠진흥원 포맷랩 지원사업에 선정돼 개발 제작된 예능 포맷이다. 해외 포맷 개발은 국내 최초의 포맷 IP 전문 기획 제작 유통 사업자인, 썸씽스페셜(Something Special)이 맡았다.

한국콘텐츠진흥원 포맷랩 지원 사업의 결과물로 탄생한 “스틸얼라이브”는 아시아 내의 폭발적인 인기를 휩쓴 국내 장수 프로그램인 “런닝맨”과 “크라임씬”의 작가였던 김미연·이보라 작가팀이 고안한 작품으로 일명 ‘데스 하우스’에 초대된 10명의 초대자와 집주인 간 펼쳐지는 고도의 심리와 눈치싸움을 코믹하게 풀어낸 리얼리티 추리게임쇼이다.

출연자들은 데스하우스 집주인의 “데스룰”이 무엇인지 맞춰야 하며, 마지막까지 살아남는 사람이 게임의 승리자가 된다.

이 쇼의 특장점을 단번에 파악한 독일 무브미의 마이클 기얼세멜 (Meikel Giersemehl) 디렉터는  “'스틸얼라이브'는 추리 리얼리티의 세팅과 게임 요소를 결합한 매우 독특한 리얼리티 프로그램 포맷”이라며, “이 놀라운 포맷이 독일판으로 어떻게 제작되어서 선보일지 벌써부터 설렌다.” 고 전했다. 마이클은 독일 최초 개국한 민영방송국인 RTL의 비드라마 수석프로듀서로 수년동안 리얼리티와 코미디 프로그램을 제작한 독일의 유명 프로듀서이기도 하다.

썸씽스페셜은 또  "배틀인더박스(Battle In the Box. 원저작권자: N미디어)"를 영국과 독일에 이어 네덜란드, 덴마크, 노르웨이, 스웨덴, 핀란드, 벨기에, 포르투갈 등 유럽 15여개국 이상으로 수출시키는데 성공했다.

“배틀인더박스”는 국내 독립제작사 N미디어사의 예능 포맷으로 ‘고립된 공간, 움직이는 벽으로 나누어진 2개의 룸에서 펼쳐지는 공간 확보 게임 쇼’로, 2022년 MBN에서 방영된 바 있다.  특히, ‘배틀인더박스’는 국내 독립제작사 보유 IP의 최초 다국가 해외 진출 사례로 의미가 크다. 2022년 밉콤에 소개된 '배틀인더박스'는 영국의 지미 카(Jimmy Carr)의 출연이 확정됐으며 2024년 UKTV에서 방영될 예정이다.
