As generative AI continues to disrupt industries around the world, U.S. TV and online newsrooms are rapidly applying AI to improve news production and effectiveness. In the broadcast and film industries, AI is already deeply embedded in applications such as automatic speech recognition, performance monitoring, and content-aware encoding. Recently, however, the creative space has been making inroads into broadcast news. Generative AI is a solution that automatically generates text, images, or video based on a given command.

NAB, the world's largest broadcast equipment show in New York, ended on October 26, 2023, and featured a number of AI technologies that can be used in the newsroom. NAB is usually held in Las Vegas every April, but it also takes place in New York City in October. With many traditional newsrooms located in the eastern United States, NAB has more new tech than any other show. At the "TV25: Monetizing the Future" seminar at NAB2023, a wide range of opinions were expressed about the uses, concerns, and preparations for AI.
As part of the session, the C-Suiter's Guide to AI: Cutting Costs & Finding New Revenue seminar discussed the potential for AI to reduce costs and increase revenue. In broadcasting, AI is being applied to everything from storytelling to ad sales. From scripting, subtitling, and editing to speeding up crews' access to archival video, generating top story highlights, and creating social media posts, AI can be responsible for every aspect of broadcasting. This is creating new opportunities for newsrooms and broadcast management in general. It opens up new licensing opportunities with broadcast assets.
