스카이댄스, 파라마운트 글로벌 인수…미래는 스트리밍 생존이 관건(Skydance Acquires Paramount Global...Future Is All About Streaming Survival)

Paramount Global has agreed to a sale deal with David Ellison's Sundance Media. The Redstone era at Paramount is over. Shari Redstone is selling her family's stake in Paramount Global and merging it with Skydance Media, ending a nearly four-decade-long Hollywood run by her and her father.

Skydance and investors have agreed to acquire Paramount Global's majority shareholder, National Amusements, for $8 billion. The transaction was fully agreed to on Sunday, July 7, 2024, and was approved by a special committee of Paramount Global's directors.  On Tuesday, Redstone announced an agreement in principle to sell National Amusements.

Paramount Global, which owns Paramount Studios, which produced "The Godfather," also owns CBS, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central and MTV, among other popular cable channels. Skydance, the company behind the Paramount acquisition, is led by the son of Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison. Skydance also has an animation studio and gaming division, as well as a joint venture with the NFL.

Skydance plans to "improve profitability and increase investment in digital platforms, while enhancing and "revitalizing" the Paramount and CBS brands," the company said, noting that it aims to "improve the technology of streaming platforms Paramount+ and Pluto, and strengthen the company's cable channels."

Under the agreement, Skydance will acquire National Amusements for an equity value of $1.75 billion. Skydance then plans to merge with Paramount. "The transaction is expected to close within the next year (2025)," Redstone explained in a memo to employees.

파라마운트 글로벌(Paramount Global)이 데이비드 엘리슨(David Ellison)의 선댄스 미디어와 매각 협상에 합의했다. 파라마운트에서 레드스톤의 시대가 끝났다. 샤리 레드스톤(Shari Redstone)은 가족 소유의 파라마운트 글로벌 지분을 매각하고  스카이댄스 미디어와 합병하여 자신과 아버지가 약 40년 동안 운영해온 할리우드 역사를 마무리한다.

스카이댄스와 투자자들은 파라마운트 글로벌의 대주주인 내셔널 어뮤즈먼트(National Amusements)를 총 80억 달러에 인수하기로 합의했다. 이번 거래는 지난 2024년 7월 7일(일) 전격 합의됐으며 파라마운트 글로벌 이사들의 특별 위원회에 의해 승인됐다.  화요일 레드스톤은 내셔널 어뮤즈먼트를 매각하기로 원칙적으로 합의했다.

‘대부(The Godfather)’를 제작한 파라마운트 스튜디오를 보유한 파라마운트 글로벌은 CBS, 니켈로디언, 코미디 센트럴, MTV와 같은 유명 케이블TV채널도 소유하고 있다. 파라마운트 인수를 결정한 스카이댄스는 오라클의 공동 창업주 래리 엘리슨(Larry Ellison)의 아들이 이끌고 있다. 스카이댄스는 애니메이션 스튜디오와 게임 사업부도 보유하고 있으며 미국 NFL과 합작 투자 사업도 하고 있다.
