미스터 비스트, TV의 역사를 새로 쓰다(Mr. Beast is about to make TV history)

MrBeast, the world's #1 YouTube star, has signed a deal with Amazon MGM Studios to produce a TV series. The show will be called "Beast Games" and will feature 1,000 players competing for a $5 million prize pool. Five million dollars is the largest prize in television history.

YouTubers have changed the history of television. In fact, this is the format that Mr. Beast (real name Jimmy Donaldson) does best. He makes millions of dollars a year playing these games.  Mr. Beast will be the host and executive producer of the game. The broadcast will be distributed globally via Prime Video. PuckNews reported in January that Beast has earned around $100 million from the deal.

"My goal is to make the best show possible and prove that YouTubers and creators can succeed on other platforms," Mr. Beast said in a statement. "Amazon has given me the creative control I need to make that happen.  I want to make the YouTube community proud."

글로벌 1위 유튜브 스타 미스터 비스트(MrBeast)가 아마존 MGM스튜디오와 TV시리즈 제작 계약을 맺었다. 프로그램 제목은 ‘비스트 게임(Beast Games)’으로 1,000명이 참여해 상금 500만 달러를 차지하기 위해 게임을 벌이는 형식이다. 500만 달러라는 금액은 TV역사상 최고의 상금이다.

유튜버가 TV의 역사를 바꾼 셈이다. 사실  이 형식은 미스터 비스트(실명 지미 도날드슨)가 가장 잘하는 포맷이다. 비스트는 이런 게임으로 1년으로 수백만 달러를 벌어들이고 있다.  미스터 비스트는 이 게임의 진행과 수석 프로듀서를 맡게 된다. 방송은 프라임 비디오를 통해 전세계에 송출된다. 퍽뉴스는 지난 1월 비스트가 이번 계약으로 1억 달러 정도의 수익을 올렸다고 보도했다.

미스터 비스트는 성명에서 “제 목표는 최고의 쇼를 만들어 유튜버와 크리에이터가 다른 플랫폼에서도 성공할 수 있다는 것을 증명하는 것”이라며 “아마존은 제가 그것을 실현하는 데 필요한 창의적인 통제권을 줬다.  유튜브 커뮤니티를 자랑스럽게 만들고 싶다”고 말했다.
