미 의회 “통합 AI규제 도입 임박”(U.S. Congress close to adopting comprehensive AI regulation)

Gen AI is spreading across society to the point where there is no area of life that it is not impacting. The technology is advancing rapidly, with the recent unveiling of a T2V (Text to Video) AI solution that automatically creates videos from text or images.

In response, committees in both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives are considering a comprehensive AI regulation bill.

This is because AI is impacting all sectors, including health, education, and media. A national unified project to study AI is on the horizon. With the U.S. presidential election coming up in late 2024, the introduction of equitable and transparent AI regulation has become a top priority.

There are various bills currently being debated in Congress.

For example, the Algorithmic Accountability Act would require companies to conduct AI bias impact assessments and create a public repository of their systems with the Federal Trade Commission. Booker led the introduction of this bicameral bill.

생성AI(Generative AI)는 영향을 미치지 않는 영역이 없을 정도로 전 사회에 확산되고 있다. 최근 텍스트나 이미지를 통해 비디오를 자동으로 만들어내는 T2V(Text to Video) AI솔루션이 공개되는 등 AI의 기술도 빠르게 발전하고 있다.  이에 미국 여야 상원의 각 분야 위원회가 통합 AI규제 법안 제정을 위한 검토에 들어갔다.  

AI가 보건, 교육, 미디어 등 모든 분야에 영향을 끼치고 있기 때문이다. AI를 연구하기 위한 국가 통합 프로젝트 가동도 임박했다. 2024년 말 대선을 앞두고 미국은 형평성과 투명성을 갖춘 AI규제 법안 도입이 최우선 과제로 떠올랐다.

[3월, AI규제 법안 검토 보고서 오픈]

악시오스(AXIOS)에 따르면 미국 여야 상원 AI 실무 그룹은 AI규제 법안 검토를 위한 위원회 보고서를 3월 공개한다. 마이크 라운즈(Mike Round) 상원의원은 악시오스(AXIOS)가 개최한  ‘Responsible AI event’에 참석해 이 같이 밝히며 보고서에는 위원회가 논의한 다양한 쟁점들이 담길 것이라고 말했다.
