National Association for Broadcasters (NAB), the world's largest broadcast entertainment technology and services show.

On the show floor, broadcast content and the technology to deliver it were on display to capture the eyes and ears of the public. AI and virtual production were the centerpieces of the 2024 show.

Virtual production, which uses entertainment technology to mix current and off-site spaces without the need to physically move, has given broadcasters the power to turn their imaginations into reality. Technology has also democratized ultra-high-definition virtual production, which was once only possible for large studios.

Virtual studios can also be seen as a way to connect two worlds through entertainment technology.  The "shared reality" of sharing different worlds now becomes a "shared experience" from the viewer's perspective.

Los Angeles, California, is getting a large, shared-experience venue that will allow people to enjoy events happening in other parts of the world, such as sporting events, right where they are.

Cosm, an immersive production services company, said it will build a 65,000-square-foot immersive venue with a capacity for 2,000 people in Hollywood Park in L.A.

DirectMediaLab has prepared a report NAB2024 show floor report on trends from the NAB2024 show. The name reflects the 2024 event, which was dominated by AI, virtual production, and FAST. AI, virtual production, and FAST are each critical to the creation of broadcast entertainment, but they can be implemented simultaneously in the TV and digital space.

Shared experiences are a different beast than virtual experiences and virtual reality, which are making a comeback with Apple's Vision Pro. The value of in-person experiences may be less materially valuable than in the past, especially now that generative AI is making everything imaginable a reality.

However, the "authenticity" of being in the same room with a friend or lover, experiencing the same things and breathing the same atmosphere , is something that virtual spaces cannot diminish. That's why we don't date the beginning of cinema to the invention of the camera, but to December 28, 1895, the day the Lumière brothers first showed The Arrival of the Train to the public for an admission fee.  Thousands of people were amazed, stunned, and awed by the cinematograph.

버추얼 스튜디오는 엔터테인먼트 테크놀로지를 통해 두 세계를 잇는다는 측면에서도 볼 수 있다.  현재 다른 세계를 공유하는 공유 현실(Shared Reality)’은 시청자 관점에서 보면  ‘공유체험(Shared experience)’이 된다.
