In 2023, Netflix implemented a partial membership program that limited the sharing of  passwords outside of the family and charged a fee for it, and Disney followed suit with a similar policy. The idea is to retain subscribers and increase revenue in an increasingly competitive streaming market.

In Sep 2024, Disney announced a product that would turn password-sharing subscribers into paying subscribers. This is called paid password sharing. Disney+ has started notifying subscribers that a paid sharing option is available. This means you'll have to pay extra to share your password with people outside of your family.

지난 2023년 넷플릭스(Netflix)가 가족 이외 인원에게 서비스 비밀 번호 공유를 제한하고 이를 유료화하한 부분 회원제를 시행한 이후 디즈니(Disney)도 유사한 정책을 내놨다. 치열해진 스트리밍 서비스 시장 경쟁에 어려워진 구독자를 확보하고 수익을 확대하기 위해서다.

디즈니(Disney)는 2024년 9월  비밀번호를 공유하는 구독자들을 유료 가입자로 전환하는 상품을 내놨다. 이른바 유료 비밀 번호 공유 상품이다. 디즈니+는 유료 공유 옵션을 이용할 수 있다는 사실을 가입자들에게 알리기 시작했다. 가족 외의 사람이 비밀번호를 공유해서 사용하기 위해서는 추가로 돈을 내야 한다는 이야기다.  디즈니+ 유료 공유 기능은 지난 여름 일부 시장에서 출시된 후 현재 미국, 캐나다, 코스타리카, 과테말라, 유럽 및 아시아 태평양 지역에서 먼저 적용된다.

미국에서 추가 멤버(Extra Member)는 디즈니(Disney+) 베이직 구독의 경우 월 $6.99, 디즈니+(Disney+) 프리미엄 구독의 경우 월 $9.99의 추가 요금이 부과된다. 기본 계정에 한 명의 추가 멤버만 등록할 수 있다.  디즈니+의 베이직 요금은 월 9.99달러다. 디즈니 번들 구독자나 타사 파트너를 통해 요금이 청구된 구독자의 경우 추가 회원 옵션을 사용할 수 없다. 추가 회원의 경우 기존 자신의 프로필을 이전할 수 있다.

디즈니는 집 밖에서 여행 중인 디즈니+ 사용자도 서비스를 이용할 수 있다고 밝혔다. 그러나 로그인하려면 계정과 연결된 이메일 주소로 전송된 일회용 비밀번호를 입력해야 한다. 디즈니는  훌루(Hulu)와 ESPN+도 향후 비밀번호 공유를 제한할 계획이다. 이에 앞서 올해(2024년) 초 Disney+, 훌루(Hulu), ESPN+는 미국 고객들에게 구독 약관 변경을 알렸다. 이와 관련 디즈니는 시스템에 따라 자동으로 회원들의 위치를 파악한다.
