The Paris 2024 Olympics will be the first event where generative AI and streaming will meet in earnest. Sports broadcasting platforms have already made the transition from TV to streaming, and the application of generative AI to live broadcasts is likely to become commonplace.
NBCUniversal's Peacock, which holds the rights to broadcast the U.S. Olympic Games, announced that the voice of veteran anchor Al Michaels (AI Michaels), created using generative AI, will be broadcasting the games. NBCUniversal announced at a press conference in New York City for its coverage of the Paris Olympics that it will use AI technology, including an AI version of Michael, to deliver a variety of personalized coverage experiences for Olympic fans.
