Kamala Harris, former U.S. vice president and potential Democratic presidential candidate, opened her own account on Tiktok account on Thursday, July 25, the world's No. 1 short-form video social media.

Her decision to open a Tiktok account has garnered a lot of attention, as the company is under pressure to leave the U.S. because its parent company is Chinese. On June 26, Harris' TikTok account reached 200,000 followers in less than two hours and is still growing.

Harris was preceded by former Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, who opened a TikTok account in June and has been posting short-form videos ever since.  

Citing TikTok bans, Chinese intervention, and connecting with younger audiences, their TikTok accounts are expected to continue to heat up in the run-up to the November election.

미국 부통령이자 유력한 민주당 대선 후보가 된 카마라 해리스(Kamala Harris)가 7월 25일(목) 글로벌 1위 숏 폼 동영상 소셜 미디어 ‘틱톡(Tiktok)’에 자기 계정을 열었다. 모회사가 중국회사라는 이유로 미국에서 퇴출 압박을 받고 있는 만큼, 그녀의 틱톡 계정 오픈은 많은 주목을 받고 있다.

26일 해리스의 틱톡 계정 팔로워는 2시간 만에 20만 만 명을 돌파했고 계속 늘어나고 있다.  

해리스에 앞서 공화당 대선 후보 도널드 트럼프 전 대통령도 6월 틱톡을 오픈하고 지속적으로 숏 폼 영상을 올리고 있다. 틱톡 금지, 중국의 개입, 젊은 층과의 소통 등을 이유로 11월 미국 대선까지 이 둘의 틱톡 계정은 계속 뜨거워질 것으로 예상된다. 틱톡은 최근 롱 폼 콘텐츠 시도하는 등 소셜 비디오 시대를 장악하기 위해 적극적으로 나서고 있다. 정치적인 리스크를 없애기 위해서도 틱톡 역시, 대선 주자들의 틱톡 활동을 반길 수 밖에 없다
